Covid-19: Becoming Infected
While the world is going through some pretty incredible turmoil right now because of the Covid-19 virus, I began thinking (a lot) about how easy it is to become infected. Given that this blog post is being written about a virus, one may be led to believe that I am about to talk about the importance of social distancing, washing your hands, not shaking hands and the like, but no. While those things have their importance, this is about our physical and mental state during difficult times.
You’ve seen signs like this ‘sorry we’re closed’ sign everywhere the last few days and in some cases, weeks. It’s the harsh reality of what we are facing. Yes, we need to be careful and these measures are here for now, but we also need to close something else. We need to close our minds and hearts to things that will attempt to instill fear. For some of us this will mean shutting off the news. (Be informed, but negatively transformed.) For others this will mean unfollowing certain people on social media. We can not let our hearts and minds become infected with the negativity.
More than being closed to those things though and becoming infected with the negativity, we must remain fervent in building a (more) firm foundation on the GOOD that lies within us and around us. Psstt…there is still GOOD out there! Become infected with positivity and passion during these next weeks. Will it be easy? No, but honestly…is it ever easy?
Is anything worth having ever easy? No. Guess what though…that is OKAY! It is okay to go through a struggle and come out on the other side a better version of ourselves.
For at least 4 weeks we are going to be ‘stuck in’ our homes. This is forcing families to spend time together. Imagine that?! Forced is such a weird word that I’ve heard used about this situation. Isn’t that what life is about anyway? Family. Our most valuable asset is our time and we have just been given A LOT of it!
Spending time (extra time) with our children is a blessing; a blessing that many would welcome especially if they can’t have kids of their own. Now, don’t get me wrong; we are on day ONE of Spring Break with two additional weeks off of school right after and my three year old stubbed his toe and threw a 35 minute fit and my one year old is refusing to nap. The crazy level is high, but I’m trying to focus on the fact that we have a home to be together in, food in our fridge and God in our hearts.
I have my home fitness programs to keep me at my best for them, because I need these kids and my husband just as much as they need me! I’m remaining OPEN to the positivity that doing a workout can bring. I’m going to make healthy meals (and some treat meals) for my family and remain OPEN to the fact that we are going to do our best to remain healthy during this time. I am going to continue to practice GRATITUDE each day and be CLOSED to the negativity that the world spews through the computer and television screens.
I encourage you to do the same.
Be CLOSED to the negativity and OPEN to health and the power of positivity.
Be INFECTIOUSLY positive on social media; instead of sharing news articles that will instill fear in some of your friends who struggle with anxiety already spread light!
Be OPEN to better health with your family while you’re ‘forced’ to be together.
Do a workout together.
Make a healthy dinner together each night.
Practice gratitude each morning as a family.
Today I’m grateful for:
Our dog that we get to snuggle with
Netflix
My Keurig
A warm home
A full fridge!
What are you thankful for today?
Embrace the good and dispel the bad. While a vaccine of kindness, positivity and love won’t kill the virus itself, it will shine LIGHT on the darkness it is causing.
Be well!
Melissa
