Hoping for…

In my fifteen or so years of coaching and personal training I have heard these things said so many times and maybe you can relate, “I hope to start again on Monday.” Another I hear a lot is, “I hope I can stay on track this week” or “I hope to lose 20 pounds in 4 months.”

Don’t get me wrong, hope is incredible! It is a lovely word with a strong meaning. It is beautiful when used in the context of church for example, but by definition it is a feeling for a desire of a particular outcome. It is a feeling. In relation to your goals; whether those are fitness & health related, financial or career, hope alone will not get you or I to our desired outcome. It also takes action.

For those fifteen or so years that I've been coaching, I have been correcting that script of those I coach. Instead of them saying "I hope to stay on track this week” I encourage them to flip that and instead say “I am going to stay on track this week and here is how I am going to do it…” We then devise a plan that they can measure versus just ‘hoping' for it to happen. Our words directly correlate to our actions. My desire is that this week, you will take the action steps to making whatever you are hoping for a reality.

Cheers!
